Alison walks Hadrian’s Wall

I have always loved walking but since my breast cancer has spread to my bones I have felt reluctant to attempt any serious form of exercise.  My oncologist and orthopaedic surgeon have always stressed the need to be cautious.  So planning and undertaking and to my surprise, completing the 84 miles of the route have given me a real confidence boost.

A couple of the days turned into 15-mile-days and nearly defeated me, but the thought of the next comfy bed in the next beautiful bed and breakfast farm kept me going. The weather was warm and sunny the whole way with only a couple of minor showers. My back held up remarkably well and though I have felt tired since getting home, I am still amazed that I managed to walk so far!

The experience of having cancer has made me appreciate and enjoy the good things in life.  I am very grateful for having the opportunity to spend a whole week in such a lovely area with my husband,Terry.

Although I have no idea how I will be next year, I am already wondering about trying a section of the Pennine Way.
